Both the Vail and Avon Stages were amazing, congrats to all of the athletes for a great race and thanks to everyone who came to Avon to help send them off in style! IronKids Triathlon
We're looking forward to this weekend's return of the IronKids Triathlon! This year's races will take place in our Nottingham Park on Sunday, Sept. 4. The event is open to kids ages 6 to 15, with three different age categories and race distances available ranging from a 500-yard run to a 2-mile run. Additional fun family-friendly activities include the Eagle River Fire Protection's Pre-Race Pancake Breakfast on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and free Group Yoga in the Park from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Good luck to all the young athletes!

Beaver Creek Oktoberfest Fall officially returns to Beaver Creek this Labor Day weekend with the annual Oktoberfest celebration! USA Pro Cycling Challenge!
Everyone in Colorado is very excited about this week's USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the start of Stage 4 on Friday here in Avon! Organizers are expected thousands of cycling fans to attend the Avon start the town has come up with some great race-day events, including for the Avon Festival & Bike Expo in Nottingham Park. Starting at 9:30 a.m., be sure to stop by The Westin Riverfront booth where we'll be highlighting all of our wellness offerings, including free mini massages from the talented therapists at Spa Anjali and gear from Beaver Creek Sports. The Expo will also feature free physical evaluations by Howard Head Sports Medicine, custom bike fittings by Venture Sports bike techs and helmet fittings by Think First.
We are also hosting the Riverfront Club Pro Power Challenge on our Gondola Plaza from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will feature two competitions:
Sprint - a 30 Second ‘All-Out' effort: Participants will spend 5-10 minutes on a stationary bike, during which time they will perform a 30 second all-out sprint. Peak Power will be measured for the 30 seconds and a Peak Power/Kg Body weight will be compared to the Pro Level cyclists. Goal - Pro Sprint (estimate): Mark Cavendish - 24.35 Watts/Kg (~1680 Watts - Peak)
Hill Climb - 5 Minute Power Test: Participants will spend 10-15 minutes total on a stationary bike, during which time they will perform a 5 minute power test at a strong climb. Power will be measured for the 5 minutes and an Avg Power/Kg Body weight will be compared to the Pro Level Cyclists. Goal - Pro Climb (estimate): Lance Armstrong - 6.0 Watts/Kg (~450 Watts)
Open to participants age 14 and older, the Riverfront Club Pro Power Challenge is free but a $10 donation is suggested. All proceeds will benefit Eagle County's Round Up River Ranch, a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses. The two participants who come closest to the Avg Power/Kg (Watts/Kg) of the Pro Cyclists will each receive a two-night visit to The Westin Riverfront and complimentary fitness classes at the Riverfront Club during their stay. All participants who make a donation to the Round Up River Ranch will also be entered into a raffle to win prizes from The Westin Riverfront, the Riverfront Club and Spa Anjali, including personal training sessions, massages and fitness club guest passes.
Other activities include the Chromoly Chef Challenge at 9:45 a.m., the Strider Cup at 10:00 a.m., Scout the Stage citizen's ride at 11:15, and a kids bike race at 12:45. Starting ceremonies for Stage 4 will begin at 11:30 prior to the race start at 12:30 p.m. Our very own General Manager Bob Trotter will be shooting off the starting gun!
For the entire week, stop by the Riverfront Club and participate in a spinning class and the club will donate half of the $10 class fee to the Roundup River Ranch. Hope to see you at the festivities!

Beaver Creek Wine & Spirits
Foodies and wine lovers will delight in this weekend's annual Beaver Creek Wine & Spirits festival, which as always features a great lineup of seminars, culinary demos and tastings. Highlights include The ABC's of Tequila, Dessert Pastry's & Cocktails and the always popular Walk & Wine hike on Beaver Creek Mountain with lunch at Grouse Mountain Grill by guest chef Abraham Salum. Avon's Dock Dogs Weekend
Dog lovers and their four-legged friends will have a blast at Avon's first Dock Dogs Weekend at Nottingham Park. Events include the Dock Dog competitions on both Saturday and Sunday, including "Big Air", "Extreme Vertical" and "Speed Retrieve." On Sunday, bring the family to the 4th annual Doggy Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk. Registration is $20 per dog, humans are free, and all proceeds go directly to the Eagle Valley Humane Society. Don't forget - The Westin Riverfront always welcomes dogs with no additional pet fees.

Just one week left until the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and we're getting pumped up! A stellar line-up of racers has been confirmed, including all three Tour de France podium placers. August 8, 2011 The Riverfront Club is looking forward to hosting a one-day Jim Ryun Running Camp this Saturday, August 13 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A Silver Olympic medal winner, Ryun's unique workshops are geared toward developing the total runner - physically, mentally and spiritually. The cost is $100 for Riverfront Club Members and $125 for the public. The Riverfront Club will donate 50% of proceeds from the event to Walking Mountains, a Vail Valley environmental sciences center. Titled "Realizing Your Dreams," the camp will cover short-term and long-term goal setting for future success, healthy stretching to help avoid senseless injuries, strength training and how to improve your running efficiency.
