Beaver Creek Opening Day!
It's going to be a busy Thanksgiving weekend in the Vail Valley! Beaver Creek will officially open for the season this Wednesday. Thanks to a series of strong early season storms, the snow is amazing - don't miss out on some of the best opening day conditions in recent memory!
Beaver Creek always celebrates opening day by crowning the winner of their annual Cookie Contest. Head to the Beaver Creek Village at 2 p.m. to sample the five finalists' cookies and cast your vote! The winning cookie will be announced at 3 p.m. on the Grand Staircase by the ice rink!
Hope to see everyone at The Westin's 3rd annual Riverfront Club Turkey Trot, held on Thanksgiving morning at 8:30 a.m. This free event supports the Vail Valley Branch of the Salvation Army and includes a 5K and 10K family-friendly fun run - strollers, costumes and bikes are all encouraged! The Riverfront Club will also be hosting a special Thanksgiving Day Yoga Practice on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The class is free, but a $10 or a winter clothing item donation to the Salvation Army is suggested.
A special Thanksgiving Dinner will be served at Restaurant Avondale from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday. The menu includes a choice of Blue Hubbard Squash Soup or Lobster Bisque, Autumn Greens or Avondale Caesar, Roasted Tom Turkey or Braised Beef Short Ribs, all served with traditional sides and a lavish dessert buffet. Holiday Kick Off!
Welcome the holiday season in style with Beaver Creek's 30th annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. this Friday in the Beaver Creek Plaza. Bring the whole family out to enjoy carolers, fireworks, a visit from Santa Claus and free ice skating! The Vilar Center will also be showing a free screening of the family-friendly "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at 7 p.m. and don't miss Warren Miller's "Wintervention" at 9:30 p.m.! Vail's Opening Day!
Vail Mountain officially opens for another season of fantastic skiing and snowboarding this Friday, Nov. 19th! The mountain is celebrating the first day of the year with a variety of festivities in the Vail Village, including $1 breakfast burritos, hot cocoa, giveaways and a free concert at 3 p.m. at the base of the gondola by up and coming Front Range duo Big Gigantic. Big Bands and Boogie Woogie
The Vail Performing Arts Academy is presenting a tribute to the big band swing era of the 1940's with You Can't Stop the Beat: That Thing Called Swing. Featuring music by Les Brown, Doris Day, Irving Berlin, The Andrew Sisters, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, more than 50 local youths will sing and dance the Lindy, Jitterbug, Swing, Foxtrot and Samba. Performances will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20-21, at 6:30 p.m. at Beaver Creek's Vilar Center.

Only two weeks to until Beaver Creek Mountain opens for the 2010-2011 ski season! Several nearby ski areas are now open - including Copper Mountain, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland. Another big storm is coming in this week, so the snow should be fantastic for Beaver Creek's opening day on Nov. 24. Get those legs ready!

Calling all shoppers! The Town of Avon recently announced a new agreement with Coach America Denver to offer daily service from the Avon Transit Center to the Outlets at Silverthorne. The Outlets at Silverthorne feature more than 50 exceptional stores, including Banana Republic, GAP, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach and Kenneth Cole. The shuttles will leave Avon daily at 9:30am to head to the Outlets at return by 4:25pm. Cost is $15 with kids under age 10 riding for free through Nov. 21.
